Texas Tech University closed its campus and returned students to home early for spring holidays after a series of explosions and human hole fires, University said in an emergency alert.
An explosion in a substation near the school Wednesday evening caused power outages across the campus, said the university. Conditions quickly discolored, the university signaling a “gas smell” on the campus. Videos on social networks later showed green flames jumping from human hole covers.
University officials evacuated certain parts of the campus and prohibited staff members from returning to their offices. Access to the university engineering key – The central area of the campus where the smell of gas has been detected – has been restricted.

The college, in Lubbock, Texas, was to start his a week’s spring break on Monday, but he chose to send the students home early.
